The Picture of Dorian Gray
The Picture of Dorian Gray
Hardcover - English

The Picture of Dorian Gray is a novel by Oscar Wilde, first published in 1890. It tells the story of a young and handsome man named Dorian Gray, who becomes the subject of a portrait painted by his friend Basil Hallward. Dorian is deeply impressed by the portrait and wishes that he could remain young and beautiful forever, while the portrait ages instead. As Dorian embarks on a life of pleasure-seeking and hedonism, he becomes increasingly corrupt and immoral, indulging in all sorts of vices and sins. However, to his surprise and horror, he discovers that the portrait is indeed aging and bearing the marks of his debauched lifestyle. As the years pass, Dorian becomes more and more obsessed with the portrait and the secret it holds. He begins to fear that his true self will be revealed to the world if the portrait is ever seen, and he goes to great lengths to keep it hidden away. The novel explores themes of beauty, morality, and the corrupting influence of society. It is a dark and haunting tale that has captivated readers for generations, and is considered one of the greatest works of English literature.Lord Henry elevated his eyebrows and looked at him in amazement through the thin blue wreaths of smoke that curled up in such fanciful whorls from his heavy, opium-tainted cigarette.
