Book of the Sacred Magic of Abra-Melin
Book of the Sacred Magic of Abra-Melin
Hardcover - English

The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abra-Melin is a grimoire, or book of magic, written in the 15th century by an unknown author. The book details a system of magic that is said to have been taught to the author by an Egyptian magician named Abra-Melin. The system involves invoking and communicating with powerful spirits, known as the Holy Guardian Angel and the 12 Kings and Dukes of Hell, in order to gain knowledge and power. The book includes instructions for performing a six-month-long ritual, during which the practitioner must live in isolation and follow strict dietary and behavioral restrictions. The book was translated into English by S.L. MacGregor Mathers, a prominent member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, in the late 19th century. Today, the Book of the Sacred Magic of Abra-Melin remains a popular and influential text in the Western occult tradition. This rare and unique manuscript, from which the present work is translated, is a French translation from the original Hebrew of Abraham the Jew. I know of no other existing copy or replica of this in the British Museum whose enormous collection of manuscripts I have thoroughly studied. A fascinating book concerning Nicholas Flamel and his success with the Philosopher's Stone. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

About Author
S. L. MacGregor Mathers (1854-1918) was a prominent scholar and leader of the occult movement in Britian at the turn of the century. A life-long fascination with mysticism and Celtic symbolism led Mathers to hold high office in the Rosicrucian Society of England, and eventually to become a founder of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. He is also well known for having been a key tutor to Aleister Crowley.
