The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket
The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket
Hardcover - English

The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket is a novel written by Edgar Allan Poe. It is a story about a young man named Arthur Gordon Pym who goes on a voyage to the South Seas with his friend Augustus. They encounter many dangers and adventures, including mutiny, shipwreck, and cannibalism. Pym is the only survivor of the shipwreck and is rescued by a group of natives. He later escapes and discovers a mysterious island inhabited by a strange race of people. The book is known for its vivid descriptions of the South Seas and its exploration of themes such as isolation, fear, and the unknown. It is considered one of Poe's most imaginative works and a precursor to the science fiction genre.A strong hand held him on the cabin floor, with a tight grasp upon his throat--still he was able to see what was going on around him. His father was tied hand and foot, and lying along the steps of the companion-way with his head down, and a deep wound in the forehead, from which the blood was flowing in a continued stream. He spoke not a word, and was apparently dying. Over him stood the first mate, eying him with an expression of fiendish derision, and deliberately searching his pockets, from which he presently drew forth a large wallet and a chronometer. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. About Author
Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston in 1809, the son of itinerant actors who left him an orphan in 1811. He became a ward of Richmond merchant John Allan and from 1815 to 1820 lived with the family in London. Upon his return, Poe received schooling in Richmond before attending the University of Virginia for a year. In 1827, he clashed with Allan and left for Boston, where he joined the army and published a slender volume, Tamerlane and Other Poems. He later attended the US Military Academy until his dismissal in 1831. The poet moved to Baltimore and began writing for magazines in 1832: three ye
