Flatland: A Romance Of Many Dimensions
Flatland: A Romance Of Many Dimensions
Paperback - English

Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions is a classic novel written by Edwin A. Abbot in the late 19th century. The book is a satirical critique of Victorian society and its rigid class structure, told through the eyes of a two-dimensional character named A Square. In Flatland, A Square lives in a world where everything is flat and two-dimensional, with no height or depth. He is a member of the middle class, and his society is divided into different shapes based on their number of sides. The more sides a shape has, the higher its social status. One day, A Square is visited by a three-dimensional being called a Sphere, who introduces him to the concept of a third dimension. A Square is initially skeptical, but as he learns more about the world beyond his own, he begins to question the rigid social structure of Flatland. As the story progresses, A Square encounters other beings from different dimensions, each with their own unique perspective on the world. He also faces persecution from his fellow Flatlanders for his newfound knowledge and beliefs. Overall, Flatland is a thought-provoking and entertaining novel that explores themes of social inequality, prejudice, and the limitations of perception. It is a must-read for anyone interested in science fiction, mathematics, or social commentary. There being no sun nor other heavenly bodies, it is impossible for us to determine the North in the usual way; but we have a method of our own. By a Law of Nature with us, there is a constant attraction to the South; and, although in temperate climates this is very slight -- so that even a Woman in reasonable health can journey several furlongs northward without much difficulty. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
