Angel Miles pulled his pistol from underneath his thigh as a law enforcement officer made his way to Miles' Dodge Durango. Miles said he had given up on life and was not going back to jail. The passenger, sensing danger, exited the truck and ran away. Miles began shooting, missing except for one bullet that made its way underneath the Kevlar vest the officer was wearing, cutting through his flesh into his heart. He died quickly.
