Jeffrey C. Goldfarb is the Michael E. Gellert Professor of Sociology at the New School for Social Research. He is the author of seven books, including "On Cultural Freedom, The Cynical Society," and "Beyond Glasnost," all published by the University of Chicago Press. <BR>
