Young Mark spends a busy, noisy day helping out at Gram's seaside hot dog stand. After the last customer is served and the grill is scrubbed to a silvery shine, Mark sails off with Gram for a promised surprise, and finds a nighttime sea full of shimmering moonjellies. The scientific name for the creatures in this story is Ctenophore, they are also called comb jellies or sea gooseberries. In New England they are most plentiful in the late summer. They are not true jellyfish because they don't have stinging cells or tentacles. Moonjellies are harmless. 25th Anniversary Edition.

About Author

Mark Shasha grew up in New London, Connecticut. He loved to draw which eventually led him to the Rhode Island School of Design. With a degree in Illustration he moved to Boston in 1983 and began doing work for newspapers and magazines like The Boston Globe ,The Phoenix and Boston Magazine. Marks first book, Night of the Moonjellies, is based on a true story from his own childhood. Today Mark continues to work on books and to visit schools. He has brought his award-winning, day-long programs to 70,000 children (K-12) in more than 150 schools.
