"Our Founding Fathers began the most exciting adventure in the history of nations ... Their victory was to find a home for liberty." President Ronald Reagan. Our Founding Fathers, despite what revisionist, politically correct historians may spout, were heroes, worthy of emulation, and I often think of them and their courage, especially during times of personal trial. These are profiles that we can all draw strength from. They are examples of great and enduring courage. They pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honour to a cause, an ideal that men had dreamed of for thousands of years. They forged a Declaration of Independence, which set forth the establishment of a nation apart from the Crown, through a revolution the likes of which was never seen in the history of man. And true to their words, five signers of the Declaration of Independence were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships suffered during the Revolutionary War. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Continental Army, and two had sons captured. Make no mistake, the men who set their signatures to the Declaration of Independence understood that if things went wrong they would see their lives conclude most likely at the end of a rope on a scaffold or in front of a firing squad. They were not profiteers seeking to expand their wealth. On the contrary, they were well educated, God-fearing freedom fighters, who knew no colony in the history of the British Empire ever declared its independence and successfully severed its ties with the Crown. More likely than not, their cause would fail, but these men chose death over a life without liberty. And the next time you look at a copy of the original Declaration of Independence, note John Hancock's signature. He signed his name extra-large, so that King George III could read it even without his spectacles. These men where truly profiles of courage This is their story, captured in a priceless collection of selected thoughts and writings of the men who changed the course of American and world history, and articulated the way forward through a Constitution for this last best hope of man on earth. These are the awe-inspiring words of our Founding Fathers This is their legacy, one worth resurrecting and studying by this generation, and the generations of Americans to come.
