Once there was a little doll. Her name was Edith. She lived in a nice house and had everything she needed except someone to play with. She was very lonely! Then one morning Edith looked into the garden and there stood two bears! Since it was first published in 1957, The Lonely Doll has established itself as a unique children's classic. Through innovative photography and simple text, Dare Wright brings the world of dolls and bears to life with an alchemy that creates far more than just a story. Edith was a 1925 felt doll from Dare's childhood, which Dare repainted and refashioned into the iconic character of Edith The Lonely Doll. In the mid-1950s Dare began photographing Edith with two stuffed bears-Mr. Bear and Little Bear-and The Lonely Doll book series was launched.
The surprising story of Pilates--the man and the method.
Part biography, part history, and part memoir, Caged Lion untangles for the first time Joseph Pilates's opaque life story and the perilous journey of his exercise program known the world over as Pilates.
This is the story of Joseph Pilates, a gifted man who immigrated to the United States at forty-three with no assets or credentials. He not only invented an exercise regimen--which today is practiced by more than ten million people--but in the process, reinvented himself.
John Howard Steel brings Joseph Pilates and his eponymous exercise regime to life from his unique perspective as a student, friend, and confidant. Joe's influence profoundly changed Steel's life; in turn, Steel was crucial for the survival of the Pilates Method and Joe's legacy. Steel's vivid account traces the expansion of Pilates from a small cadre of dedicated adherents, through two periods of near extinction, to the global sensation it is today. Steel describes Joseph Pilates's years as a prisoner during World War I, Joe's motivation to discover his system of exercises, his inspirational teaching technique, and the unique attraction of the Pilates Method. It's quite a story.

This is the story of a little doll named Persis who was rescued from a deserted farmhouse by a kindly turtle. You run along now and see the world, Turtle told her as he led her out of the dim old house into the light. As the sun warmed Persis, and the wind blew the last bit of dust off her, that is exactly what she set off to do. Nice Bear and Cross Bear were taking their afternoon walk when they discovered Persis napping under a May apple. When the little doll woke up, she asked if she could go home with the bears and off they went together. Nice Bear showed her the fun of the bright outdoors and fed her on honey and berries. Cross Bear, who was exceedingly grumpy, called Persis a little nuisance until an accident made him realize how much he cared for her, too.
A tiny doll named Robin lived happily in the forest where the small wild creatures all loved her, and she loved every squirrel and rabbit and bird. Then one day a girl named Susan saw Robin lying among the leaves and took the tiny doll home with her. Susan wasn't a little girl who could hear dolls talk and never heard Robin shouting, Put me down, put me down. I live in the woods. It's my home Robin was quickly welcomed by Susan's other dolls and toy animals but missed her home in the woods and her wild animal friends quite terribly. Robin's woodland friend, Crow, searched and searched until he found where she had been taken. With Crow's clever help, Robin managed to escape living as a plaything and return to her beloved home in the woods.
The sun was shining, summer was beginning, and a young girl named Brett was wishing. She stood alone on the end of a dock and wished for a friend to share the summer with her. That night, Brett's mother brought her a little doll she had found in an old trunk, but Brett was not very interested. She wanted a real, live friend. Then she heard a small voice ask, You mean you don't want me? My name is Persis. You have to keep me. If I belong to you, I can be real, and we can be friends. That is exactly what happened, and the two of them had a summer of adventures climbing trees, rowing a boat down the creek, and going on bike rides together. They even caught a fish that was bigger than Persis. Brett's mother never discovered that Persis and Brett could talk with each other. Persis was just a doll to everyone except her own little girl who could make her real.

When a young man named Pablo Augustine first sees a golden cup in the dirt outside the church, it sets him on a course of adventure and discovery he would never have imagined possible. His life in the quiet Spanish colonial town of Tomé had been uneventful until this sighting. Afterwards, a series of visions and dreams changes his destiny forever.
Pablo sets out on foot to journey through the magnificent landscape of New Spain (now known as New Mexico). His quest: to find the meaning of the mysterious object, his strange dreams, and what it means to him and his future. He meets an unforgettable cast of characters along the way, making connections and relationships which last a lifetime and build towards a poignant and emotional conclusion
A unique and enchanting tale, The Golden Cup inhabits a place between fantasy and historical fiction. Its magical realism envelops the reader in a world at once familiar, yet long forgotten. One finds oneself transported back to a mythical time when spiritual aspirations and attainments were as important as worldly endeavors.
I will not budge.
I will not buckle.
I will not surrender.
Bernadette recited that mantra to herself over and over again since the night she was abducted. She woke bound and gagged, staring into the face of a man whose past was linked with hers. A man... with a vendetta.

Destante and Aniause have always been true loves, soulmates. But that all changes when she becomes queen of the phoenix shapeshifters and guardian of the sole dragon shifter left alive. To complicate matters, the griffins are threatening war and her phoenix lords are considering a coup.
All Destante wants is for things to go back the way they were, before she became queen. When she and Aniause loved each other and had sworn to be mates forever.
The past is brought back as people of older generations share stories about the sustainable lifestyles that were common when they were young. These stories reveal a global experience, from as near as Brooklyn to as far as China, from Italy, Ghana, Kazakhstan, and France to Ecuador and the Dominican Republic. Most of the chapters of this book are individual life histories collected by students in sociology and anthropology classes taught by the editors at the College of Staten Island and Westchester Community College. Thanks to the ethnic diversity of the New York metropolitan region, stories from all over the world emerged when students were assigned to interview their own family elders and friends. In the interviews, elders remembered that the relatively low consumption, low waste lifestyles of their younger days were very satisfying. Many of them were keen to tell today's youth that it is not possessions that determine the good life, but community and relationships.
