Have you ever wondered why an educational industry dominated by women has a significantly low number of women in leadership? And have you ever wondered why these numbers are especially low for women of color? Women are entrusted with the care, nourishment, and development of our most precious customers, our children. Society has created a frame that women are caregivers, nurturers, and the primary bearers of raising the next generation but history and experiences have taught us that these same characteristics lauded as essential in the raising of our generations somehow cannot be translated to effective leadership. Countless policies, unwritten rules, practices, and experiences have paved a way for mistreatment, misogyny, and racism to seep into the educational system perpetuating a patriarchal environment and closing the door to access and opportunities for women in educational leadership.
Women make up more than 80% of teachers in the education field, yet less than 33% of them are in district leadership positions such as executive directors and school superintendents. And these numbers are dismal for women of color with only 5% percent of Black women are in leadership positions. Traditionally, women were relegated to classroom positions or quasi-leadership roles within the school or district offices, with men acquiring leadership positions. We have all heard similar stories of former sports coaches ascending the ranks of leadership to become the school principal and then eventually the superintendent with little teaching experience. Today, these high-level positions continue to be dominated by white males and in school districts predominantly enrolled with Black and Latinx students.
Unwrapped is a dual story by Kendra Washington-Bass and Kelly Peaks Horner that details their personal and professional journeys that have led them to unwrap how we have been conditioned to perpetuate these isms so that we can begin self-discovery, recovery, and eventually create an arena for women educational leaders to build positive and productive educational experiences that lead to equitable access for all students, especially our most marginalized. It's time we stop trying to fit into the prototype of acceptable leadership and leadership practices. And, instead, chart our own way. Create practices that allow us to thrive and achieve the success we desire. It's time to disrupt the traditional way leadership development and support are administered and ask for what we need and how we need it. We hope to not only impact you as an individual but also systems, like school boards, and structures, like school districts. We hope that our stories and experiences inspire reflection and action to dismantle the practices that prohibit our talents of leading and especially our own self-diminishing actions that prevent us from fully supporting each other.
Neely never knew a world without limits. There was always a boundary, always a line she couldn't cross. She heard her parents speak about life before the walls. It sounded like a great way to live. It sounded a lot like freedom, but behind the perimeter of Zone 7, even the thought of escaping was a crime. One president had come along and changed the way people interacted forever. People lived behind barricades. The walls seperated each race. The walls kept people safe, but to an adventurous 17 year old Neely, they made her feel trapped. After meeting a group of teenagers from other zones on the interscope, a new age internet, Neely decides its time to break the rules and venture outside of her zone. Fearless and determined, Neely sneaks out and meets friends who are so different from her that it's mind blowing. When their night of rebellion turns into a fight for justice, they must prove their lives matter and that when people come together miraculous things can happen.
The obsession to be perfect, to gain the love of those in your life, and to assure everyone else is happy can lead to varying traumas and negative behaviors. For Author Dana L. Roberson, it led to eight years of alcoholism, mental illness, and years of painful consequences.
Dana Roberson walks through her heart-rendering journey in a raw, transparent, and beautifully vulnerable fashion. Without shame recounting her toxic relationship with alcohol. This book shines a light on addiction, mental illnesses, and the lack of communication around these topics in communities-of-color. By sharing her truth, Roberson hopes to inspire others to look inward to find their purpose and their truth so that they can strengthen themselves first, and then those they love.

What comes to mind when you think of a criminal defense investigator, or a private detective? Many people grab an image of the detective in old black and white movies with long trench coats, wide hats and black patent leather shoes. Others may conjure up visions of those on television through the seventies and eighties like Columbo, Magnum P.I., Charlie's Angels or Spenser for Hire. Today's criminal defense investigator is more savvy and astute in things like blood spatter, interrogation and focusing on the alternate sides of the story. In this book, Dr. Anthony L Robbins provides insight for fellow criminal defense investigators, while offering sharp and professional advice to readers who ay find themselves in position to conduct some of their own criminal investigations.

Cynthia Stargell has trained under and trained musicians in churches and in denominational organizations for more than two decades. She personally understands how ministry music leaders and those who serve in music ministry can fall prey to burnout and move away from God. Yet she believes there is a powerful spiritual movement that can take places in houses of worship and in the lives of individuals when one's heart and spirit are fixed on God and their divine assignment. In MEDITATION FOR MINSTRELS, Stargell provides 30 powerful nuggets to pull ministers, choir members, band members, lyricists and every person involved with creating an environment of productive and effective praise and worship back to their knees and to prayer. In delicate and thorough exhortation and encouragement she leads them to turning their hearts and lives back to an intimate place of personal worship.
