The Greek New Testament is the 1881 printing of the Textus Receptus edited by Frederick H. A. Scrivener, a well-respected late nineteenth century scholar. The Textus Receptus (TR), also called the Received Text, is a printed Greek New Testament that is based on the vast majority of ancient hand-written New Testament manuscripts. This massive quantity of manuscripts is called the Traditional or Byzantine Text. The King James Version New Testament was translated from the Received Text. The TR was first published in 1516.

This volume is similar to interlinears, in that it compares the Greek and English. However, it differs with many interlinears in that it does not include a separate literal translation. Interlinears often include a new translation or a so-called literal translation. The implication is that the literal translation is more correct than the popular translation (such as the KJV), because it is literal. However, literal does not always mean literal. Most Greek words can be translated in various ways, so the word chosen by the translator as the literal translation may actually not be the best word in the context.

The KJV is a translation that has stood the dual tests of time and God's scrutiny. For over four hundred years, God has placed His stamp of approval on it. He has used the KJV and the TR for every great movement of world-wide evangelism since 1611. Even today, with all the new translations and the interlinears, the KJV is still a worldwide best seller every year.

Just as in the theory of evolution versus the Biblical teaching and the truth of God's creation, so there is a controversy whether or not both the Bible and scientific facts teach clearly that the earth is the center of God's creation rather than the sun. Dr. Moorman has done a masterful job in clarifying this subject for the Bible-believing Christians.

It is an exhaustive examination of the history of the Bible--from the time that it was breathed out by God, through its various stages of transmission, down to its present form in our day. The Reason For This Book. Prior to the 1980's when Hodges and Farstad published their edition of their so-called Greek Majority Text, this was the name which had been given to the Greek Textus Receptus which underlies the King James Bible. Dr. Moorman has given needed clarification to this important matter. The Goal of This Book. One of the goals of this volume is to present the Biblical arguments for God's promise of verbal, plenary, preservation of His Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek Words and His fulfillment of that promise. In addition, two Majority Texts are examined; Von Soden's defective work is disclosed; over 90 pages of manuscript digest is listed, and 1 John 5:7-8 is established. The Name of This Book. The title of the book is When the KJV Departs From the Majority Text. The c. 414 manuscripts used for proof are not a majority of the over 5,555 manuscripts in existence today. Of the 1,800 MT differences with the TR, about 1/3rd depart from the wording of the KJV. The Usefulness of This Book. This book should prove useful to one who seeks to find the specific differences between the MT and the TR as well as to find the manuscript authority for the Words underlying the King James Bible.
