Ezra A. Carman is regarded as the father of Antietam historiography. Colonel of the 13th New Jersey Infantry during the battle, he spent the better part of his later life writing a comprehensive manuscript detailing the Maryland Campaign. He also spent a significant amount of effort to build an accurate order of battle, along with the strength of the armies engaged. The result was a detailed and meticulously researched account of the actions in Maryland and Virginia during that fateful September 1862. Adding to this work, he created a series of maps showing the movement and flow of the battle over the course of the day. His work has served as the foundation for much of the following history of the battle. Though written more than a century ago, it holds up to modern scrutiny quite well. The Visual Antietam series publishes Carman's manuscript with a heavy emphasis on maps and photographs. Visual Antietam Vol. 2: Ezra Carman's Antietam Through Maps and Pictures: The West Woods to Bloody Lane contains sixty (60) images, both period and modern, allowing the reader to see the battlefield today and as it was only days after the battle. Fifty-three (53) original maps explain the troop movements during the course of that morning and afternoon.
In the early 1900s Ezra A. Carman wrote a sweeping and detailed manuscript chronicling the Maryland Campaign of 1862. As the colonel of the 13th New Jersey Infantry, he was a participant in the battle. He served as a trustee on the Antietam National Cemetery Association Board from 1866 to 1877 and as an 'historical expert' and member of the War Department's Antietam Board for Antietam National Battlefield Site from 1895 to 1897. Drawing from extensive interviews with fellow veterans, including numerous walks on the battlefield, the manuscript provided a unique and detailed history of the campaign. Unfortunately, it was never published. However, it has served as a starting point for most books written about the battle ever since.
The Visual Antietam series publishes Carman's manuscript with a heavy emphasis on maps and photographs. Visual Antietam Vol. 3: Ezra Carman's Antietam Through Maps and Pictures: The Middle Bridge To Hill's Counterattack contains forty (40) images, both period and modern, allowing the reader to see the battlefield today and as it was only days after the battle. Thirty-two (32) original maps explain the troop movements during the course of that morning and afternoon east and south of Sharpsburg.

Hope is like the dirt and the stars; it is part of forever.
In 2007 the international relief organization Food For The Poor spoke to a small parish in Hope Valley, Rhode Island, about a massive project of building a village in Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere. The pastor of the church challenged the families of his congregation to make a difference in the world through this mission of hope because at the same time many families in Haiti were being challenged to hold onto another form of hope, that of mere survival. Kiki Latimer became St. Joseph's Church Haiti Project chairperson for the next fifteen years.
Over these years these two worlds would be brought together through many different housing, educational, and agricultural projects. The original village story, written by Kiki, was published by Educa Vision as the children's book Islands of Hope. The sequel, The Hopeful Coconut, continued the mission story with a deeper, more philosophical, understanding of hope. Kiki would eventually make three trips to Haiti. Here at last is her story of the heart-opening journey into a land of great joy and great sorrow; My Haiti Memoir brings to readers an understanding of hope that is indeed like the dirt and the stars.

The state of Virginia was the focal point of the American Civil War, and had the most battles of the war fought within it. That is not to say that the war was won or lost in the East. That is a debate for historians and scholars. However, it is undeniable that more battles and skirmishes were fought within Virginia than any other state. This scenario book contains rules to simulate ten battles fought in Virginia from 1862-1864.
These miniature wargame scenarios are designed to be used with almost any American Civil War regimental or brigade level set of rules. Rules are included for figures based on 20, 30, 40, 50, and 100 historic men per figure/stand. Times are given for 10, 15, and 20 minutes per game turn. Maps are in full color, as are the numerous color photographs of the modern battlefield. This book does not contain rules for playing miniature wargames.
