Church boards are often the scene of confusion, conflict, and chaos. What's the job of a board? What's the role of the pastor in relation to the board? Should there be an elder board and an administrative board? Ted Hull's use of illustrations and analogies bring these questions-and answers-into focus.
Ted first looks at the foundation of governance, both from a biblical and historic perspective. Then he introduces Policy Governance(R), often referred to as the Carver model, and confronts questions regarding whether this secular model can work in the church, or if it should even be allowed. He even argues for why a church board may not want to use Policy Governance.
When you're done reading, you'll never look at the role of a church board in the same way again. In fact, whether you're a member of your church board or the board of any charity, you'll find yourself reaching for this book more than once.
With wit and wisdom, Ted draws from his rich and practical experience in church life and organizational governance to assist churches in understanding and applying Policy Governance(R) consistently and correctly.

From One of America's Leading Pastors, a Bold Call to Restore Christianity's True Mission: Following Jesus
The marriage of bad theology and hypocritical behavior by the church has eroded our spiritual lives. Taking the best of biblical scholarship, Meyers recasts core Christian concepts in an effort to save Christianity from its obsession with personal salvation. Not a plea to try something brand new, but rather the recovery of something very old, Saving Jesus from the Church shows us what it means to follow Jesus's teachings today.
The history of the popes of the Roman Catholic Church is a shocking litany of crimes against humanity not often acknowledged at Sunday Mass. Many amazing Catholic individuals who make up the landscape of Christianity have inadvertently followed theology and tradition passed down for generations from an unbiblical hierarchy with ulterior motives, with no resemblance to the early Church and apostles.
Christianity has always been a movement centered on one defining event and person-the resurrection of Jesus Christ-with the simple mission to spread the good news that God has reconciled the world back to Himself, forever removing the penalty of sin. But when Constantine legalized Christianity in the 4th century, religion, paganism, and politics were merged together. This marked the beginning of a Roman system of church that was built to enrich the dynasty of self-serving popes, deceptive doctrines, and immoral clergy. Faithful believers have been intentionally kept ignorant of the true Gospel for centuries, forced to rely on human achievement, negating God's grace.
When the Roman Bough Breaks draws together extensive published research, investigative journalism, and endless Catholic admissions and apologies, showing the true nature of the Roman Catholic system and its roots in sharp contrast to the original Church and the true Gospel. Under the New Covenant that Christ ushered in, believers are forgiven only once for sins past, present, and future through His sacrifice on the cross. And, through His resurrection, we are given His life and righteousness. In this simple twofold Gospel of faith, there is freedom from the religious performance of endless duties and prideful self-righteousness.
This is an invitation to explore God's New Covenant offered after the cross: a one-time, permanent forgiveness because of Christ's finished work. It is an invitation to discover the glorious salvation in Christ, separate from the trap of rituals and requirements.
Explore the relevance of the true history of the Catholic faith to believers today, and examine what Catholic theologians like Scott Hahn, Trent Horn, and Jimmy Akin teach about the roots of doctrines like indulgences and purgatory. What really happened in the Crusades and Inquisitions of the Middle Ages? Is confession to a priest biblical? How has the celibacy of priests and nuns led to global Catholic sex abuse scandals and widespread homosexuality in the Vatican? Was Peter the first pope? Drawing on research from Keith Thompson, Frederic Martel, and many others, author Jeff Nottingham examines the history of Catholic theology and the teaching of Catholic apologetics alongside the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the faith of the early apostles.
Christians agree that worship must be biblical, but too many Christians focus on a handful of texts. To understand and do the Christian liturgy, we need to take account of the whole Bible.
In Theopolitan Liturgy, Peter J. Leithart examines the liturgical features of creation. The world is a temple. History is a dialogue with God. Life and society is sacrificial. Time follows a liturgical pattern.
Because creation is inherently liturgical, the liturgy isn't a retreat from the world. It's a transformation of the world. Church buildings use space as God designed it to be used, as space for worship. In the liturgy, we are trained to respond rightly to God's word, and learn the habit of living sacrifice. The church's calendar Christianizes time, imprinting the gospel on our days and years.
Leithart demonstrates that the liturgy isn't a retreat from engagement with the world. It is the church's primary engagement with the world. The liturgy is the initial Christianization of creation.
The introduction to the Theopolis Fundamentals Series was Leithart's book, Theopolitan Vision. Leithart's Theopolitan Liturgy is the first book in the series.
The early volumes of the Theopolis Fundamentals Series summarize the convictions of the Theopolis Institute in Birmingham, Alabama and James B. Jordan's Biblical Horizons about topics including biblical interpretation, liturgical theology and practice, and the church's cultural and political mission. The Fundamentals will be followed by a collection of Theopolis Explorations volumes that will examine Scripture, liturgy, and culture in more depth and detail.
What is a church? This can be a difficult question to answer and Christians have offered a variety of perspectives. Gregg Allison explores and synthesizes all that Scripture affirms about the new covenant people of God, capturing a full picture of the biblical church. He covers the topics of the church's identity and characteristics; its growth through purity, unity, and discipline; its offices and leadership structures; its ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper; and its ministries. Here is a rich approach to ecclesiology consisting of sustained doctrinal reflection and wise, practical application.

In the pages of this book, Alan Hirsch takes us on a really deep dive into the fivefold (APEST) typology of ministry as articulated in Ephesians 4:1-16, but he takes us to a depth and scope that few (if any) have ventured before. By laying out the most comprehensive model of APEST to date--one that incorporates deep theology as well as innovative practice--Hirsch once again demonstrates his almost uncanny capacity to change not only the conversation itself, but also the scorecard on how we understand calling, church, leadership, and organization.
The heavenly city of God resurrects the cities of men.
On Earth as in Heaven calls the church to embrace her identity and mission as one shaped by biblical theology and liturgy. The world grows increasingly polarized and politicized, but the church's commission remains unchanged. Christians carry out Jesus's mission by being the church. To change the world, the church needs only to be what she is--the bride of Christ--and to do what she does--teach, preach, sing, pray, break bread. Cultural and political mission and individual witness and service all spring from the church's liturgical life. As the church proclaims God's word and practices vibrant liturgy, she is God's heavenly city, shining as a light to the world.
In this classic volume, nineteenth-century Reformed Anglican M.F. Sadler provides invaluable insight into the Sacrament of Christian Baptism. Drawing from a great multitude of both Old and New Testament texts as well as the work of the Church's greatest theologians (including Augustine, Anselm, Aquinas, Luther, Calvin and Cranmer), Sadler demonstrates that orthodox Christian theology has traditionally recognized baptism as the basis of our union with Christ, the Second Adam. The product of this study is an impenetrable defense of infant baptism and a brilliant exposition of the manner in which the Scriptures speak of the relationship between the Sacraments, the Church and salvation.
Now, in publication for the first time in over a century, The Second Adam and the New Birth is here to challenge and inform an entirely new generation of churchmen and theologians.
Introductory essay by Rich Lusk
In this day when Christians and churches are widely dispersed throughout the world, the ques- tion 'Who is the church?' could easily be dismissed as irrelevant. In this publication, Bishop David Zac Niringiye pleads that as Jesus warned, we should not be in haste to conclude that any community with religious titles or forms and who speaks the right language of 'Lord, Lord . . . ' is authentic church. Taking his cue from Hebrews 11 and 12 the author addresses the motif of 'the people of God', looking first at the ancient people of Israel, beginning with Moses, then the new Israel and the covenant in Christ, born through the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and finally the life of the new community, the church, during the apostolic era. Through this biblical journey it is made clear that as the pilgrim people of God and the new community in Christ we must be marked by faith, love and hope, looking forward to the full consummation of the kingdom of God - justice, peace and joy, fully realized when 'the new heaven and the new earth where righteousness dwells' (2 Peter 3:13) is inaugurated.
Why Missions and Evangelism Are an Overflow of Delighting in God
Evangelism and missions are parts of the Christian life often accompanied by fears, insecurities, and cultural pressures. In this addition to the Union series, Daniel Hames and Michael Reeves argue that an individual's relationship with God influences their evangelism and missions more than anything else. Scripture clearly shows that a believer's responsibility is to make God known in the world, but this cannot be done without first knowing and enjoying God.
To illustrate how knowledge of God influences evangelism and missions, Hames and Reeves address biblical themes such as the glory of God, Christ's sacrifice, the fallenness of man, and the church's future hope. There is hope for those who find these topics intimidating--when believers focus on the glory of the lamb of God, the gospel will shine through them.

The Book of Revelation describes a church from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation glorifying the Lamb that was slain. As the church expands in the Majority World and Christianity becomes an increasingly global faith, this vision is an increasingly visible reality. The insights found in The Church from Every Tribe and Tongue are not commonplace. Written by nine theologians and biblical scholars from Africa, Asia, Latin America and North America, each provide fresh perspectives surveying the most pressing ecclesiological issues in their various regions. The end result is a prescient analysis and constructive proposal detailing how the worldwide church can bear witness in a diverse and changing world.
