3D Modeling is an important skillset for many Mechanical Engineers. Instead of lengthy explanations of how the CAD features operate, students will instead apply features and tools to build realistic product models while gaining deeper knowledge through repetition on later lessons. Eventually students will be at an intermediate level of CAD skill; knowing what features are available, how to use them, and how to troubleshoot their own models. Students will be able to work on their own designs, work for a company at an internship or early career design job, and be capable of producing models and detail drawings suitable for prototyping or manufacturing. At this skill level students will not be exposed to complex equation driven modeling, simulations, mechanisms, or detailed geometric tolerance drawings.

Introduction to MicroStation:
A Project-Based Approach for Learning MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 3)
The book is designed to give the student an introduction to the MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 3) software. The book contains step-by-step project tutorials with screenshots using the MicroStation program. Both two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) techniques & tools are covered. The student begins with 2D versions of 12 projects. These projects are of mechanical-type projects in both imperial and metric units.
Topics Include:
Orthographic Projection
Dimensioning Tools and Styles
Use of Line Styles
AccuDraw (Compass and Coordinate Key-In)
Feature Modeling Tools
Reference Files
Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) Symbols
Printing to PDF Files
The student will also be introduced to the use of welding symbols and the process of creating Cells (Symbols) for use within a weldment project.
Once the student completes these projects, they will be instructed in the use of the three-dimensional portion of the program. The student will draw the initial projects in a 3D format. Instruction in the conversion of a 3D solid to a set of 2D orthographic views is also covered.
The final part of the book will consist of an assembly drawing of a Robotic Gripper End Effector. The student will first draw the parts in 3D format. These parts will be used to create dimensioned, 2D versions of the projects. The parts will then be assembled to show exploded and assembled versions.
There is also a companion website for the book that is maintained by the author. Purchasers of the book will be able to download support files and view tutorial videos for each of the projects presented in the book.
Emphasis is placed on making the learning process as quick and as easy as possible with a minimum of extra information. This way the student may concentrate on completing the projects and becoming a productive MicroStation drafter and designer in a relatively short time.
Even if you've never touched a 3D printer, these projects will excite and empower you to learn new skills, extend your current abilities, and awaken your creative impulses. Each project uses a unique combination of electronics, hand assembly techniques, custom 3D-printed parts, and software, while teaching you how to think through and execute your own ideas.

Autodesk(R) Navisworks(R) 2020: Using Autodesk Navisworks in a BIM Workflow teaches you how to better predict project outcomes, reduce conflicts and changes, and achieve lower project risk using the Autodesk(R) Navisworks(R) Manage software in a BIM workflow.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) encompasses the entire building life cycle. BIM includes all phases of the design process, from model creation to construction and ending at operations and maintenance. Using a BIM workflow, you will learn how a design changes throughout the BIM process and how the changes affect the BIM model.
Over the course of this guide, you will learn how to consolidate civil, architectural, structural, and MEP models into one BIM model. Starting with an Autodesk(R) Civil 3D(R) drawing file, you will append various Autodesk(R) Revit(R) and Autodesk(R) Inventor(R) models and check for conflicts. Note: Clash Detection is only available in Navisworks Manage - it is not available in Navisworks Simulate or Navisworks Freedom.
Next, you will use review and markup tools for communicating issues across disciplines. Finally, you will use TimeLiner, Animator, and Clash Detective to simulate construction and find constructibility issues and on-site clashes.
This guide is designed for new and experienced users of the Autodesk Navisworks software in multiple disciplines.
