Derek Owens joined the Marine Corps to make a difference in the world. After being seriously wounded in battle, he was given convalescent leave. While on leave, he visited the families of Marines who served with him and were killed in action.
While trying to meet the family of a Marine in a small town in North Carolina, he met and fell in love with a woman who happened to be in love with someone else. Saddened, he returned to the Marines to finish out his obligation.
Upon his discharge, he joined a police department in Florida in hopes of making a difference in people's lives. While he did make a difference in some lives, he found himself wrestling alligators, getting into high-speed wild car chases, and surviving a shoot-out with a serial killer.
After five years of police work, he felt God calling him to do something else, so he resigned from the police department. As he sought God's will in his life, he frequently prayed and finally discovered his true calling. And at the end of his journey, he found true faith and love.
In this second installment, Gary and his dog, Guen, return to the historic streets of St. Augustine, Florida, to discuss such wide-ranging topics as sporks, speed humps, James Bond, Common Core math, a gigantic water bowl, Antonio Banderas, and a superhero Dachshund named Edgar. This hilarious follow-up to Walking Guen is sure to leave you smiling.
While walking Guen through the historic streets of St. Augustine this morning, she found a cushion on Sevilla Street. She turned and said, This reminds me, I once knew a guy who owned a drinking establishment and--
You knew a guy who owned a bar?
I have friends. Anyway, his patrons complained that his bar chairs were uncomfortable, so he added cushions. But then business dropped off because he kept referring to the cushions as stool softeners.
I looked at her in silence for a long moment. Keep walking, Guen.

Have you always wondered how the grandmasters learned to play chess so well? This book contains all the advanced methods and strategies you need to learn to start playing like them.
Of course, it's okay to have some doubts. After all, chess doesn't seem like something you learn from reading a book. But the truth is, if you don't learn the theory first, playing the game in real life can be difficult. And that's what this book has been written to solve.
Like everything else, if you don't start from the basics, becoming a chess master is impossible. Don't pick up this book hoping to just memorize moves and patterns. There's a bit of that in here, but much more than cramming in elaborate strategies that you're probably not going to use in true life, this book breaks down the advanced concepts of chess. It will teach you how to develop your strategies and make the right moves to dominate and control the game from the opening to the endgame.
Here are a few things you can expect to learn in this 10-chapter simplified chess manual for beginners:
This is a book for beginner chess players so you don't have to bother with all the complex terms, master lingo, and other stuff you might find boring. It's everything you need to know about chess in simple and plain language for easy understanding for players at all levels.

I started my journey looking for truth and a closer relationship with God!
I always knew deep down inside that there was more to me than just this life, I felt it deep within me, that
I was more than just this and so, I started a quest to discover what it was I always knew was there.
In the beginning my journey took me to many dark places, but in the end, I would discover that although
truth gives light to many dark secrets it also reveals a reality beyond my wildest imagination.
Later I was asked by Jesus to write a book that would share my walk with others who like me were searching for a closer relationship with Him.
Jesus brought Kevin Zadai into my life about 4 years ago to help me learn how to have favor with Him and it was through Kevin that
Jesus spoke His Truths to me. Twice I went to Him in prayer, and asked, Lord is Kevin who I should be listening to and twice I was
told the same thing? Kevin is of me, listen to him, and apply the truths I reveal to you to your life. Since that day I have done just that,
and this book is a confirmation of what happened in my life after I did, and the journey God took me on to get there.
In this third book, Gary and his dog, Guen, return to the historic streets of St. Augustine, Florida, to discuss such wide-ranging topics as Edgar Allan Poe, disco, black holes, dinosaur ghosts, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, Village People, and more. This continuing series is sure to leave you smiling, or shaking your head, or both.
While walking Guen through the historic streets of St. Augustine this morning, we were on Carrera Street when I said, Congratulations are in order, Guen. When they weighed you at the vet's office yesterday, you were seven pounds lighter than last year. That's a good chunk of extra padding.
It wasn't extra 'padding.' I like to think of it as shedding my 'winter buffer.'
Were you expecting a blizzard in St. Augustine last year?
This book is about multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis that I have and how I plan to move forward with my life after my diagnosis.
MS hit me at a very young age and has disabled me and put me in a wheelchair.
My goal is to encourage young men and women with this diagnosis, telling them we can make it.
Believe in yourself, and if you put your mind to it, you can do it whatever it is.
Diagnosis for MS has no cure, but life must go on. MS is not a killer, and when you're so young, you need to find a way to keep going.
Quitting is not an option; we must find a way to move forward with life we can win.
It feels good to see your goals come to life. The only way MS can stop me is if I let it.
I talk about all my goals in this book.
For several years, author Gary Williams has walked his female yellow Labrador retriever, Guen, through the historic streets of St. Augustine, Florida, and posted their amusing--sometimes educational, mostly whimsical--conversations on social media. (Yes, dogs can talk. Just ask any dog owner.) For the first time, these daily exchanges between man and man's best friend have been captured in a book featuring the best of the Walking Guen posts. Follow along as Gary and Guen discuss such deep philosophical and socially relevant topics as the Village People, bubble wrap, Oz, ice cream, firemen, organ concerts, and the Death Star. Each conversation is accompanied by Gary's original grainy flip-phone camera photo of Guen as they weave their way through the streets.
So, sit back, relax, and follow along on these daily light-hearted discussions where beast often gets the better of man.
