Considered one of the best books on Native Americans ever written. The author and compiler reveals how Indians once lived and what they believed in relation to spiritual principles. As we move further away from the time when Native Americans were living completely free and unencumbered in what was to become the United States, before the arrival of the white man, it becomes increasingly difficult to preserve or remember the way of life that they had. Seton preserves all of the most important information in this book, gathered from the best sources at a time when it could still be accurately found. Like other Bibles, it includes creation stories and mythology as well as the trials and tribulations of the people. Chapters include The Soul of the Red Man, covering spiritual beliefs; The Ancient Way is about family life, laws and medicine men; The Wisdom of the Old Men covers the ancient teachings and myths; and Prophets of the Red Race shares stories on 13 different prophets, including Hiawatha, Tecumseh, Crazy Horse, Sitting Bull, Wabasha, Geronimo and Wovoka. The Epilogue, originally written shortly after the Great Depression, repeatedly emphasizes the failures of the white race due to money-madness, and how important it is to bring back an awareness that is not based so heavily on materialism.

About the Doublebit Press Legacy Editions
Sometimes we need to remember our history to move forward. Sometimes, remembering our heritage is just fun or inspirational. These skills aren't forgotten, they've just been shelved. It's time to unshelve them once again and reclaim the lost knowledge of self-sufficiency

Starting A Legacy For Millions of Scouts
Enjoy this unabridged, high-quality Doublebit Legacy reprint of The Boy Scouts Original 1910 Handbook, which was the first temporary version of the Scout Handbook written by Ernest Thompson Seton for the Boy Scouts in the first year that the organization was founded.
At the birth of Scouting in America, there were two similar, but entirely different official handbooks that were published around the same time. The present book is the very first American scout manual, published in 1910 by Ernest Thompson Seton (the Original Edition Boy Scout Handbook). One year later in 1911, the Boy Scouts National Council approved the publication of an entirely different official handbook with all new content, the First Edition Boy Scout Handbook, with no official single author. This is one case in which the words original and first do not mean the same thing
This Original 1910 Handbook provides instruction on boy scout badges, tests, and activities as suggested by Seton from BP's Scouting for Boys book, but were not yet official with the organization. Additionally, the book provided instruction on Seton's primary interests in camping and outdoors skills, first aid, swimming, nature lore, animal tracking and identification, archery, fire starting, cooking, citizenship, and patriotism.
See the scouting principles and ideals as they were published at the birth of the organization in 1910 Although the times have changed and some of the material has become outdated since its publication, see how boy scouts were instrumental in early 1900s history and how they pushed forward with determination and great skill.
This book makes a perfect gift for Eagle Scouts and scout leaders or scout masters Being full of classic outdoors skills and information, it is also a great book for outdoorspeople, campers, backpackers, bushcrafters, and outdoors historians.

2018 Reprint of 1898 Edition. Illustrated. A stirring account of the lives of eight wild animals, including Lobo, the king of Currumpaw; Silverspot, the story of a crow; Raggylug, the story of a cottontail rabbit; Bingo, the story of a dog; the Springfield fox; the pacing mustang; Wully, the story of a yaller dog; and Redruff, the story of the Don valley partridge. Ernest Thompson Seton was a naturalist and author. This collection of stories created a new genre of realistic wild-animal fiction. It quickly became one of the most popular books of its day. Lobo the King of Currumpaw, the first story in the collection, was based upon Seton's experience hunting wolves in the southwestern United States. It became a classic, setting the tone for his future works that would similarly depict animals--especially predators who were often demonized in literature--as compassionate, individualistic beings.

This edition features all the stories for this classic of nature lore, however they have been rearranged to fit the reading order used by Ambleside Online.
From the foreword- THESE STORIES are true. Although I have left the strict line of historical truth in many places, the animals in this book were all real characters. They lived the lives I have depicted, and showed the stamp of heroism and personality more strongly by far than it has been in the power of my pen to tell...
Such a collection of histories naturally suggests a common thought a moral it would have been called in the last century. No doubt each different mind will find a moral to its taste, but I hope some will herein find emphasized a moral as old as Scripture: we and the beasts are kin. Man has nothing that the animals have not at least a vestige of, the animals have nothing that man does not in some degree share.
A collection of riveting stories about creatures great and small from Ernest Thompson Seton, the creator of realistic wild-animal fiction.
Includes a foreword by Sir David Attenborough and an introduction by David L. Witt.
Ernest Thompson Seton's Wild Animals I Have Known, published in 1898, was a transformative masterpiece that not only dramatically shifted the perspective of writers and readers alike, but also changed Seton himself. Through the fateful encounter with the wolf Lobo, Seton became a dedicated wildlife protector, individualizing animals and exploring their motivations, feelings, and personalities. This publication would soon contribute to the conservationist movement of the twentieth century and establish Seton as a pivotal naturalist within our history. Experience Seton's transformation with the stories of Lobo and other creatures in his words and captivating art, and reconnect with the beauty of the wild and the interconnectedness of man and nature.
Wild Animals I Have Known joins Gibbs Smith's best-selling Wilderness series. Standing beside the works of other incredible naturalists, including Henry David Thoreau, John Muir, Mark Twain, Walt Whitman, and Jack London, these essays are reissued to encourage and inspire philosophers, travelers, campers, and contemporary naturalists.
A fascinating and practical primer on every aspect of country living and outdoor adventure. Abundantly illustrated with the author's own handsome pen-and-ink drawings, this classic outdoor handbook is both a cherished piece of American history and a useful tool in preserving and communing with nature.
