The Jewish Social Life in the Times of Christ
The purpose of this book is to describe the time and the traditions in which Christ lived, so that the reader can clearly see what happened in those times, familiarize themselves with the traditions, ways of thinking and teaching. This book transports the reader to the towns in Palestine during the time of Christ.
Jesus Christ was truly God and truly man - and as a man he was strictly of his time, having grown up within social mores, within a religious home, with brothers, friends and colleagues, and worked with others as a carpenter. As such, he walked in accordance with the times in which he lived. He spoke and taught in the manner of then. Yet it was said of Him: Never has any man spoken like this man! This book:
Gives the reader a better understanding of many of the expressions and allusions in the New Testament
Presents new evidence for the truth of the story and an insight into the teachings of Jesus Christ in contrast to those of his contemporaries.
It transports the reader into ordinary Palestinian civil society during the time of Christ. It leads him to mingle side by side with the men and women of that period, to see them in their homes and families, to learn their habits and ways of doing things, and to follow them in their ordinary life.
This work is that of a scholarly detailer, but it is presented in a popular and readable style, and will add meaning, color, and spiritual depth to the words and events of the New Testament.
The Temple, Its Ministry and Service
The Temple by Alfred Edersheim, it is a detailed research work that studies The Temple of Jerusalem, a key element in understanding both the Old and New Testament. The author takes us nineteen centuries in the past; to show us how Jerusalem was then, when our Lord passed through its streets, and through the sanctuary, when he taught through its porches and courts. It describes not only the appearance and structure of the Temple, but also their ordinances and worshipers, the ministry of priesthood, and their rituals. The author also seeks to show us the religious life of the period in which Jesus lived on earth, the circumstances under which he taught, and the religious rites with which he was surrounded, and whose meaning, in its truest sense, he came to fulfill. Jehovah, the God of Israel, is also the God and Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In this book you will find:

In my book on The Temple, its Ministry and Services, I endeavoured to carry the reader with me into the Sanctuary, and to make him witness all connected with its institutions, its priesthood, and its solemnities. In this book I have sought to take him into ordinary civil society, and to make him mingle with the men and women of that period, see them in their homes and families, learn their habits and manners, and follow them in their ordinary life-all, as illustrative of New Testament history; at the same time endeavouring to present in a popular form the scenes witnessed.
Alfred Edersheim (7 March 1825 - 16 March 1889) was a Biblical scholar known especially for his book The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah.
Historical Bible commentary
Edersheim has been recognized and appreciated worldwide as the man who has best known how to analyze and explain to the Christian world the context of Jewish uses and customs that form the historical context of the Old Testament and New Testament. His two fundamental and world-renowned works, republished in English to this day are:
Old Testament Bible History, (Historical Commentary on the Old Testament) in which he analyzes the historical setting of the biblical text of the A.T. from creation to Babylonian captivity.
The Life and Times of Jesus de Messiah (The life and times of Jesus the Messiah) where he exposes in great detail the situation of the Jewish world in the first century in relation to the events narrated in the gospels.
Together they form a scholarly exegetical tool unmatched to date for the study of the Bible. Its profound erudition and the depth with which it deals with each and every one of the exposed topics, place it among the evangelical Christian literature of the highest intellectual level. The citations to the rabbinic writings in Hebrew - of which he indicates the exact provenance, including the quoted line, are constant.
