After completion of his first book, Golf Is My Life: Glorifying God Through the Game, Jon Decker became senior editor for Golf Tips Magazine. He started a Christian golf feature for the magazine titled Fairways to Heaven. His articles included scripture, a golf story as well as life experience to create a one-of-a-kind feature for a mainstream golf publication. The feature became very popular with the Golf Tips Magazine subscribers. The positive feedback from the readers inspired Jon to compile his articles, plus add new content, to create his second book, Fairways to Heaven: One Shot at a Time...

The book also includes a moving tribute to Jon's mentor, Phil Rodgers, with numerous testimonials to Phil from Jon's former coworkers. God brought passion into Jon's life at an early age when he saw his very first golf club. This passion turned to love and gave birth to a dream. Fueled by this dream, he worked diligently to one day be a PGA Tour player. However, God's plan for his life did not include professional golf as a participant. Led by the hand of God to a path not foreseen in his childhood dreams, Jon became a teaching professional, teaching the game that he loves.
