Ann Cecil-Sterman is an acupuncturist clinician, teacher, and author of the acclaimed books, Advanced Acupuncture and The Art of Pulse Diagnosis. Tongue Diagnosis, Visible Responses to Pathology contains a detailed, step-by-step exploration of the energetics of internal health and shows how that leads to a method of tongue diagnosis, useful for any style of Chinese medicine practice and invaluable for telemedicine. The aim of this book is to convey the principles of diagnosis rather than require memorization of tongue presentations. In this way any tongue viewed can be approached step-by-step, leading to an insightful and accurate diagnosis. Tongue Diagnosis includes discussions and analysis of tongue shape, length, moisture, texture, color, coverage, coat, spots, froth, lines, cracks, thorns, eruptions, hollows, trapped heat, pulse vectors, sublingual veins, and organ function, all as described on the tongue. Much of this material appears in print for the first time including discussion of tongue diagnostics for all the channels of acupuncture, including Primary channels and the complement channels: the Eight Extraordinary, Divergent, Luo, and Sinew meridians. Throughout the theory, case studies, and frequently asked questions, there are methodical protocols that can deeply inform everyone's practice, from beginners to advanced practitioners, and of particular use not only to acupuncturists and herbalists but dietary practitioners, and beyond. The book includes the practice of correlating tongue indicators with advanced dietetics. Tongue Diagnosis contains 306 photographs and 96 diagrams. Designed and illustrated by Cody Dodo. Foreword by Dr. Hung Tran. Printed in the USA, London, or Melbourne. Hard Cover, 202 pages.

ADVANCE PRAISE
This is a wonderful work. Ann Cecil-Sterman has been writing methodical clinical manuals assembled from her study of the oral tradition of Jeffrey Yuen and her own busy practice. This time, she focuses upon the topic of pulse diagnosis. She is clear and concise, providing a detailed approach to this method. The images contained herein elucidate many areas that have long proven to be confusing for learners. Her years of work on these oral transmissions is to be commended. At long last, this tradition will be available for generations to come.

All holistic systems of medicine contain at their core a deep awareness that the human body consists of more than just fluids and tissue and bone. Chinese medicine specifically views the body as a hierarchically organized fusion of spirit, energy and matter. No treatment should ever be administered without considering the body's energetic planes first. Among the various modalities of Chinese medicine, pulse diagnosis once reigned supreme as a direct way to perceive energetic imbalances. This book represents a practical and sensitive introduction to the complex topic of Oriental pulse diagnosis that makes this waning art accessible. Another valuable contribution to the profession by Ann Cecil-Sterman

ABOUT THE AUTHOR\
Ann Cecil-Sterman, MS, L.Ac, is the author of the internationally acclaimed book, Advanced Acupuncture: A Clinic Manual, a required text in many acupuncture schools in the United States and widely read in Europe and Australia. She travels all over the world to teach the application and methodology of the Complement Channels, the art of pulse diagnosis, and the use of food as medicine. For many years she taught Advanced Clinical Observation and was a senior clinic supervisor at the school of acupuncture founded by Dr Jeffrey Yuen in 1997 in New York City. She is a long-time student of Dr Yuen, having extensively studied acupuncture, diet, Chinese medical history, herbs, qigong, essential oils, stones and philosophy with him across North America. Ann was Director of the Classical Wellness Center in Manhattan where for many years she practiced and taught classes on advanced diagnosis and the theory and application of Classical Chinese Medicine. Currently, her patients--children and adults of all ages--come from all over the world, working through illnesses or on personal cultivation. Ann's practice features the Complement Channels of acupuncture: the Sinew, Luo, Divergent and Eight Extraordinary Channels, and is augmented with Classical Chinese dietary therapeutic guidance. This publication is a response to countless requests for a separate collection of the drawings that appear in the book Advanced Acupuncture, A Clinic Manual. In that book Ann Cecil-Sterman suggests unique protcols for the Complement Channels: the Sinew, Luo, Divergent and Eight Extra Channels derived from her many years of study with the great Dr Jeffrey Yuen. Advanced Acupuncture is the first and only book of protocols for these channels. The book's illustrations--derived from her intense and long instruction by Dr Yuen--map the entire channel system. Here in this volume, the drawings appear in an easy reference form, complete with all points and branches. An abbreviated point location reminder section is included. Concepts and principles being understood, there are times when a quick reference secures confidence and precision in the clinic. These drawings present some information about the channels that had not been shown before Advanced Acupuncture was published. The Sinew Channels, for example, are shown with their actual width, that is, covering the entire surface of the body and overlapping with one another. Luo, Divergent and Eight Extra Channels are all shown with all their points, branches and trajectories for the first time ever in print. The third branch of the Kidney Primary Channel also appears for the first time in print.
From the Author:
Four years before the Clinic Manual (2013) was published, I sent out a group email asking whether there was an acupuncturist out there who also happened to be an artist. That same day, I received a reply from my colleague (and now good friend) Pat Didner. She shared excitement about the project, understood its importance and was soon at work. The illustrations took three years to complete. Pat has an amazing and quick eye and a ready and deep intuitive sense. I'm certain the Manual would not have been possible without her. The Primary and Complement Channels are extremely complex and there were many aspects to consider during the countless hours of discussions between us. Pat developed a unique way of conveying vital information and the result is deeply meaningful and beautiful. The most wonderful thing to me is that the drawings truly are art. We decided to put nearly every channel on a separate page as a way of showing that the tiniest and simplest channel is just as important as the longest one with the most branches. May your use of the Complement Channels expand more readily with this additional tool. Thank you for being a part of the expanding, world-wide cultivation and use of these remarkable channels as our profession returns to the rich and precious roots of our medicine as described in the Han Dynasty texts, the foundation of Chinese Medicine.
